Statement of Purpose
The Surrey Citywide Youth Council exists to:
- Unite diverse youth in the community in an effort to offer broader opportunities
- Empower youth and allow them to contribute to society in a variety of work and find ways to unite the community.
- Make youth activities more fun
- Make youth more active
- Give Youth more options
- Allow youth to have an opinion in the community
- Meet new people in a fun and safe environment
- Access resources
- Provide a place/environment where youth can enjoy their interests and be themselves
Code of Ethics
The Surrey Citywide Youth Council will work together by:
- Being innovative
- Regular consistent meetings
- Everyone has a right to their own opinion and lifestyle
- Respect – open environment and no put-downs
- Respect – to all Council members and their ideas
- Respect – to everyone and all cultures
- Encourage others to participate
- Support people and ideas
- Listen
- Always have food
- Speak concerns at meetings when the opportunity for discussion exists
- Balance – give everyone a chance to talk
- Everyone should be committed to their responsibilities
- If there is a disagreement, figure out how to compromise and come to a fair conclusion

Roles and Responsibilities
The Surrey Citywide Youth Council members roles and responsibilities are:
- Everyone needs to commit to all meetings
- Equal share
- The staff person should be a support to the group, but not the leader.
- Rotating responsibilities if anyone is interested, not forced
- Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Communication, Marketing and Promotions, Fundraising
- To be on time and prepared
- Share ideas
- Create a Safe environment
- Exhibit a positive outlook
- Be a positive role model
- Be actively involved
- Help others who are experiencing difficulties
- Clean up after yourself – respect spaces
- Develop each other’s strengths
- Make sub committees
